Build relevant content on your site
One of the best benefits of blogging for your business is that you will continuously add great content to your website. A blog will add to your website’s credibility with strategic topics, unique things to say, and incorporating the right keywords. Additionally, search engines love frequently updated content, so a well-maintained blog can attract search engine crawlers to index your site more frequently.
To make the most of your blog, ensure that your bloggers are familiar with your targeted keywords and topics. They can strategically incorporate these keywords into the content or address issues important to your business and its consumers. Creating a posting schedule from the outset will help search engines understand when to expect new content on your site.
Promote products and services
A business blog is an excellent platform for generating excitement around upcoming releases or reminding readers about existing products and services. Unlike a static landing page, a blog post allows you to showcase innovative uses for your offerings, highlight upcoming features, or present your products in a new light.
When promoting your products or services through your blog, adopting a personal and sincere approach is crucial. Blog readers expect to be educated or entertained rather than bombarded with blatant advertisements. Focus on building anticipation, providing fresh perspectives, and avoiding aggressive sales tactics.
Engage and communicate with your community
A blog gives your business a personal face, allowing you to communicate with your audience as colleagues or friends. While your website may convey a professional image, a blog enables you to establish a more relatable connection. It provides a platform for ongoing dialogue with readers, who may be existing or potential customers.
To create an authentic voice for your blog, write conversationally. Your blog writers can incorporate references to daily office life or, if comfortable, their own personal experiences. Keep the comments section open and respond promptly to foster community engagement and make your blog a launchpad for conversations.
Maintain (some) control of the conversation
While relinquishing full message control may sound daunting, a business blog offers a moderated conversational medium under your control. It allows you to update the blog as needed and craft messages that align with your desired brand image. Utilizing RSS feeds, you can deliver these messages directly to an opt-in group of interested readers. In the event of negative comments or reputation crises, the blog becomes an opportunity to address the situation on your own terms, minimizing the impact.
Increase brand awareness
A blog serves as an additional avenue for raising awareness about your business or brand. By consistently delivering quality content, your brand can become ingrained in the minds of your audience when they think of your product or service. Demonstrate your expertise, stay on-topic, update regularly, be original, and most importantly, be authentic. By doing so, your blog can attract loyal readers who may become brand evangelists, spreading the word about your business. Additionally, blog content can rank in search results, providing exposure and visibility that you may not have otherwise received.
Receive traffic and inbound links
An active and engaging blog can generate traffic to your website and attract valuable inbound links. By offering compelling content, readers will discover your blog through search engines or through sharing with their like-minded friends. You can lead blog traffic to convert on your website through effective calls to action. Furthermore, by including links from your blog posts to related landing pages on your website, you can drive valuable traffic and enhance search engine rankings, which rely heavily on the number and quality of inbound links.
In conclusion, business blogging can unlock tremendous potential for your company.
Remember, the pain of not utilizing business blogging effectively can result in missed opportunities for growth and exposure. By implementing these strategies, you can unleash the full power of business blogging and position your company for success in the digital landscape.

What are people’s thoughts on the importance of placing a company blog at a subdirectory vs subdomain?
I always recommend clients place their blog at a subdirectory when possible as the root domain is sure to receive full benefit of inbound links.
The degree to which a subdomain passes link equity back to the root domain seems less clear.
Thoughts/reactions to this?
Hi ahwinston :) At Bruce Clay, Inc. we would agree with your recommendation to place the blog in a subdirectory rather than in a subdomain. Search engines generally consider a subdomain to be an entirely separate site, so if you want the blog to be seen as connected to the site, thus sharing any mutually beneficial content and links, it should be located in a subdirectory.
